The Senior class of the SWVA Healthcare Excellence Academy Lab School was honored during a special end-of-year celebration on May 3, 2026 at the Emory & Henry University McGlothin Center for the Performing Arts recognizing the accomplishments, dedication and future plans of 43 students pursuing careers in healthcare.
This exciting event brought together family, friends, university leadership, faculty, partners, and state representatives to celebrate the 2026 HEALS Seniors. The ceremony featured remarks from Dr. Lou Fincher, Emory & Henry University President and Dr. Dennis Carter, Emory & Henry University Vice President for Strategic Partnerships and Innovation, who praised the students for their commitment to healthcare education and their readiness to enter critical workforce fields.
State leaders also joined the celebration, including Senator Todd Pillion and Delegate Israel O’Quinn, both of whom highlighted the steps it took to create the SWVA Healthcare Excellence Academy Lab School and commended the students for pursuing careers in the healthcare field that will be vital to the region and the Commonwealth.
Throughout the evening, members of the lab school staff reflected on the growth and achievements of the senior class, recognizing the students for their academic success, certifications, and leadership. Student speakers – Maggie S. and Kasey B. – shared personal reflections on their experiences within the HEALS program, expressing gratitude for the friendships and opportunities that shaped their educational journey.
The event concluded with a formal recognition of all 43 seniors, celebrating not only their accomplishments and future college and career plans, but also the lasting legacy they leave within the HEALS community. As each student crossed the stage and received applause from family and friends, the evening served as both a celebration of achievement and a hopeful look toward the future of healthcare.
